We tend to think that we observe the world carefully, weigh information and reach conclusions through rational analysis. The brain operates with a different logic: it seeks coherence, speed and economy. It uses tools that help it navigate complexity without consuming excessive energy. Symbols are one of those tools. A symbol is compressed meaning.
In another article, I explored why symbols are powerful. They work because they align with how our brain actually functions. They compress meaning, accelerate recognition and shape decisions in ways that operate below conscious analysis. The question now becomes practical. How do you design that symbolic power intentionally?
Narrative coherence becomes much easier when you understand the nature of your symbolic dimension. There is an important distinction to make here. Positioning is a strategic choice. It consists in focusing on a specific part of your value proposition so that you occupy a distinctive place in the mind of your public. It is deliberate, analytical and explicit, and it concentrates on the value that you offer, whether that value lies in resolving problems, connecting through emotions or inspiring direction.
Promotion is the art of letting your public know that you offer relevant and inspiring value. For that reason, promotion is a fundamental dimension of your personal brand activity, because even the strongest positioning requires visibility in order to generate recognition and preference.
